SHE JUST WANTS TO PROTECT HER DOG

A determined woman fights to protect her dog

Based on True Events

The incubating film is based on a true story that is shocking, heartbreaking, and heartwarming.

Background

News Story:

A 2-year-old girl in Chengdu was attacked by a Black Rottweiler dog and seriously injured. The girl is currently hospitalized, while the owner of the Rottweiler has been arrested. (10/16/23)

The incident shocked people across the country, with people calling for control of dogs without leashes. The dog-catching controversy began to spread, resulting in law enforcement actions. Many cities in China have established Dog Control Teams to capture dogs that may threaten the community.

Why is there a problem?

While many city governments claim to handle captured dogs humanely, the insufficient resources at animal shelters result in the euthanasia of many banned and unadopted dogs, and the lack of oversight of law enforcement personnel results in some dog control team members using cruel methods to kill dogs. This sometimes includes excessive enforcement, which does not spare even leashed dogs that pose no threat to the public.

A Potential Solution: Anti-animal Cruelty Legislation + Clear Dog Control Policy

The true story and news we chose to adapt:

  • Story: A Shenzhen lady named R (anonymous) was arrested for obstructing law enforcement because she tried to stop the Dog Control Team officers from taking her licensed dog. Luckily, after being bailed out, Robot managed to rescue her dog by bribing the authorities and moved to the United States with her dog.

  • News: A 2-year-old girl in Chengdu was seriously injured after being attacked by an off-leash pet dog for no apparent reason

  • Multiple news videos and pictures: Some Dog Control Team officers use cruel methods to kill stray dogs.

  • Multiple online videos: Chinese internet celebrities rescuing dogs from dog meat trucks.

  • We aim to use this film to engage in a friendly dialogue with the public and policymakers, to prevent further cruel mistreatment of animals.

  • The film will adopt a soft and balanced approach to explain the concerns and considerations of people with different perspectives. While we detest animal abusers, we will not condemn those who hold different views on legislation.
